Appointment length: 20 minutes

How it works
Some earwax may need softening before removal, and occasionally a further appointment may be required.
Benefits of Microsuction Earwax Removal
Unlike traditional ear irrigation, microsuction does not involve flushing water into the ear. It may also be suitable for some patients who cannot undergo irrigation, subject to clinical assessment.
Removing a wax blockage may help relieve symptoms such as muffled hearing, a blocked sensation or ear discomfort. Results vary, and complete removal may occasionally require a further appointment.
When Might You Need Earwax Removal?
If you are experiencing these symptoms, our clinician can examine your ears to determine whether earwax is responsible and whether microsuction is appropriate.
Please inform us of any previous ear surgery, perforated eardrum, ear infections or discharge before treatment. Some conditions may require further medical assessment rather than earwax removal.

Aftercare
To help maintain healthy ears, avoid inserting cotton buds or other objects into the ear canal. Your clinician will provide personalised aftercare advice and let you know if further treatment or a follow-up appointment is required.
Some patients may experience temporary dizziness or mild discomfort. If you develop persistent pain, bleeding, discharge or worsening hearing, seek medical advice. Sudden hearing loss requires urgent medical assessment.
Possible Side Effects and Risks
Occasionally, irritation or minor bleeding of the ear canal may occur. Less common risks include infection, tinnitus, changes in hearing or injury to the ear canal or eardrum.
Your clinician will examine your ears, discuss any relevant risks and assess whether microsuction is suitable before proceeding. If you experience pain or dizziness during treatment, the procedure can be paused or stopped.
